Well Ubisoft certainly kicked off their press conference with a bang. An annoying dance number of a bang, but a bang none-the-less. Starting the show they had rapper Flo Rida come out singing along with back-up dancers to a trailer for Just Dance 4, the next in the yearly series from Ubisoft. After that it was Aisha Tyler’s turn to take the stage as host of the press conference along with her co-host, Youtube’s Tobuscus. Like most guest hosts at Ubisoft’s Press Conferences these two came across as incredibly forced, but at least they were amusing at times. Now onto the rest of the show:
Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 was the first non-spectacle of a game to make it out of the gate. Well that would be true if it wasn’t for the fact that the trailer starts with some of the worst rendered breasts in modern gaming. I would say this trailer is NSFW, but the boobs are so plastic and unrealistic that I wouldn’t worry about it. Follow through to Kotaku for the full trailers for what looks to be the winner of the batshit crazy award of E3.
Next up was another trailer for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, but sadly I can’t find a decent version to put on the site. Honestly I didn’t find what was shown to be any more or less impressive than what was seen during Microsoft’s Press Conference.
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
Not entirely sure what kind of game this will be, but the trailer sure was pretty. Seeing a myriad of Marvel characters grace the screen as the Avengers look on was pretty damned sweet. All we know is that it’s releasing for Kinect and Wii U in Fall of this year.
Now we enter the Wii U exclusive territory of the show. Honestly after yesterday’s reveal of the Wii U I was completely disinterested int he system. Today, after Ubisoft’s Press Conference I am completely sold.
How the hell did that happen? Well it can all be blamed on Rayman Legends. Between the gorgeous visuals and amazing music that Rayman is already known for to the use of music in gameplay, it came across as amazing. Plus seeing the Wii U Gamepad in action finally sold my brain on the idea of it. I’m still not 100%, but now I’m definitely leaning towards being an early adopter of the system.
Check out IGN for the gameplay footage that enticed me oh so much.
I don’t know if this game wins the “Best Name of E3” or “Stupidest Name of E3” award, but what I do know is that it easily had one of the most compelling trailers of the day. The game is also the first Wii U exclusives that we have seen at this point.
Ubisoft Wii U Launch Line-up
Here is the planned launch line-up for the Wii U from Ubisoft:
Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013
Just Dance 4
Avengers: Battle for Earth
Not much is known yet about most of these, but they were shown during a quick ensemble trailer.
Assassin’s Creed III
Now we enter the awesome zone. A new trailer for one of the loves of my life, Assassin’s Creed III, followed by some gorgeous gameplay footage. Holy hell, seeing Connor fluidly passing through snow and into trees was mind-blowing. The movement and the sound was a feat of brilliance. This game can not release soon enough!
The makers of Trackmania showed off their new game Shootmania, and boy did it look boring. They had some Counter-Strike players come out to show off a game that is nothing like Counter-Strike. Honestly it was just a way for Ubisoft to show that they want to get into the E-Sports Arena, and in the end it was really sad.
At this point it looked like Ubisoft’s Press Conference would go out with a whimper. That is until this final game showed up:
What the hell was that about? That’s what you probably are asking now if you’re anything like me. By this point I was confused, tired, and incapable of caring about Ubisoft anymore. “You’ve shown me Assassin’s Creed, let me go to sleep!” I might have yelled at my screen.
Then the gameplay demo started:
I’m still deeply confused what to think of this game. It’s like they took Grand Theft Auto IV, Hitman, Deus Ex, and Assassin’s Creed, put them in a room, and forced them to make sweet love until Watch Dog was born unto the world. Still not a lot is known about the game other than the fact that it was demoed on a PC. We’ll keep you up to date and try to a do a lengthier write-up as more information appears.
